Tromsø is a family of architypical LED streetlamps designed during a workshop at écal for Italian technology firm EWO. The Design is based on the consideration, that streetlamps usually do not stand alone. They are mostly installed in greater numbers and have to match different urban contexts. They are clearly serving a specific public purpose and are not primarialy egocentic solitairs neither Design-statements. Therefore Tromsø comes with a clear and purely function-driven formal language, yet a concave pole section that frames the illuminated area makes it special to the attentive observer. To be fitted for a highly industrialized production the proposal is based on the idea of using aluminum - extrusion for the poles: Once the extrusion-tool is finalized, hundreds of meters can be produced at low costs. The final models shown are executed in cardboard in scale 1:1.
